On the  threshold of the snow melting Ingmar Muusikus adds one more story about lynx tracking  as send off for the  winter.

In mid-March I was driving in Kõrvemaa along roads between bogs towards the Kiigumõisa springs. The hope of finding fresh animal tracks was non-existent because of the dense snowfall that had just ended. At a dilapidated farmhouse I stopped. I got out of the car and … a few steps away there were completely fresh lynx tracks! The lynx had passed here no more than 5 minutes ago. An earlier track row would have been erased by the snowfall. With the “hot” tracks in sight the excitement in the soul of the tracker had risen sky-high.

The Estonian Ornithological Society chose the tawny owl as the bird of the year for 2009. Since then we have watched the breeding of a tawny owl pair – Klaus and Klaara - nesting in Lääne County. We are not quite convinced that we still have to do with the same Klaus and Klaara since from the exterior it is not possible to tell birds from different years apart.

Today in the springtime warmth the black stork male arrived in the stork nest, as usual as the first.

Familiar place but after more than half a year’s absence everything has to be checked…

Spring has dragged this year and with the snowy weather after the Easter holidays  the birds visited the feeder quite busily.

The birds seen in the camera this year were introduced by the Linnuvaatleja, www.linnuvaatleja.ee

Our thanks to the Looduskalender forum!

The camera operated at Otepää in the yard of  Arne Ader. The birds were fed by Balsnack, www.balsnack.ee

Until meeting again in the new season!
