At the ringing Renno comments both the measures and the eaglet itself compared to others of the same age.
The white-tailed eagle camera is located at a nest in West Estonia, a neighbour to the nest of Linda and Sulev that we have watched previously.

The rings on the eaglet’s left leg
White-tailed eagle Merikotkas Haliaeëtus albicilla
Actually birthday rings – on Friday the eaglet will be one and a half months old.
Of course Renno also turned the camera back into place during the ringing and fastened it more securely.

So it happened yesterday as Suvi arrived at the nest.
Presently we see only the heads of the birds and the camera can be redirected on to the nest only by the Eagle Club investigators. The question is of course when? – When the eagle chick will be ringed.
We will let you know when something is happening.

Only practice makes a master
White-tailed eagle Merikotkas Haliaeëtus albicilla
The eaglet that was hatched on April 24 has almost no downy feathers any longer. By and by it learns to eat by itself. It will take about one more month for the eaglet to be able to fly.
Early summer arrived early this year, it has been hot and by now there is already drought and the seawater .level has stayed low.
Everyone seems to have eaten and are well. A peaceful nest life!.

Family photo, for comparison see the image from a week ago below the text

We see the development of the eaglet in growth, plumage and behaviour.
The hot weather, in daytime more than 25 degrees, wearies everybody including large birds. The adults sit as sunshades in front of the chick – the little organism is not protected against a heatstroke.
In the second half of the week rain is promised, possibly together with thunder. The eagle nest needs ”watering” too.

The weeks in spring pass by as if flying – so much around is worth noting.

Female Suvi trusts leaving the nest only when male Sulev is near it
White-tailed eagle Merikotkas Haliaeëtus albicilla
By today the eagle chick is a week old – it hatched as you may remember on April 24.
It is nice to watch the development. Sulev has cared for the food store and in the last few days Suvi too has contributed. The chick is fed fish caught earlier – interesting whether that is drier for tearing off more suitable pieces.

When female eagle Suvi rose for a moment from the nest in the morning a little before half past seven the eagle chick had hatched….
White-tailed eagle Merikotkas Haliaeëtus albicilla
Thirtyseven days of incubation in the cold spring, sometimes even in a snowdrift.
The chick was hatched from the first egg laid on March 18. From the incubation period we can deduce that the egg that was crushed on April 5 was laid on March 21.

The eagle chick has picked holes in the shell with its egg tooth and squeaks...

Let us look back in time and make a brief recapitulation of events in female Suvi and male Sulev’s nest up to now.

Are two eggs better than one?
If you have a choice, then surely. But in the Estonian white-tailed eagles’ (Suvi and Sulev) nest with webcam there is not much choice – only one egg remains in the nest.
The second egg was broken on the morning of April 5th and the remnants were removed by the adults from the nest.
