Death of the white-tailed eagle: investigation continues

Regrettably a notion has spread that the investigation concerning the circumstances of the death of the white-tailed eagle has been closed. The Environmental Inspectorate assures that the investigation continues and will make every effort to bring clarity about the events.
Based on the X-ray images it can be stated that the eagle in all probability died as a result of shooting but how this happened  specifically and who may have done it has not yet been elucidated.
We have to do with a complicated investigation. In the  X-ray images small metal fragments can be seen in the tissues of the bird but according to the experts’ estimate it is not possible to extract them and analyse them further. Consequently it cannot be stated with what weapon or ammunition the shooting was done. No bullets or shot have been found in the carcass of the eagle. The eagle was also already badly damaged at the time of discovery – the entrails and breast had been eaten by other birds and animals.
The Environmental Inspectorate has undertaken the proceedings that are feasible within a misdemeanour investigation. So far they have not led to the desired results but we continue the investigation. We also once more repeat our plea: if anyone has any information that might advance the investigation of this highly regrettable event we ask you to please inform the Environmental Inspectorate.
