We all hope to see our resident couple Irma (U5) and Ivo (ED) back on this nest, for another successful breeding season.
Nearly every season here had a "drama", also last year, 2018, had its surprise for cam observers.
Irma and Ivo returned home safe and sound, three eggs were laid, no egg was lost by accident, three osprets hatched, no ospret was blown from the nest during a storm, all grew up well and got their ID-rings when they were big enough and then all three osprets fledged.
Unfortunately one of the osprets, Jaak (XJ), somehow managed to get his ring slipped over his left ankle, two of his toes were "trapped" in the ring, see picture below.

Nobody knows how this happened, it happened somewhere outside the nest, out of cam view. For parts of the audience it was not easy to hear and accept that there would be no intervention, as there was no chance to trap this fledgling and release him from the ring. A very unhappy situation on the one hand, not pleasant to watch, but on the other hand it was an unique possibility for ornithologists to observe how things would go on and to draw conclusions, e.g. about ring material and -size, and maybe take changes into consideration.
All came to a happy end, when Jaak could get rid of the ring all by himself, after 8 days living with this mislocated ring.

Ivo hatched and was ringed in 2013 by Joosep Tuvi, in a nest 50 km NNE in Jõgeva county
Irma was ringed as an adult bird, we don´t know anything about her hatching date
Nest is located in South Estonia, Tartumaa, not far from a fish farm. Natural river and ponds are in vicinity, too.
Ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) reach body heights of 50-66 cm, and wingspans of 1,27 - 1,74 m. Females are bigger than males.
- Winglength ♂ 448 bis 495 mm ♀ 470 bis 518 mm
- Weight ♂ 1,12 bis 1,74 kg ♀ 1,21 bis 2,05 kg
Usually two or three eggs are laid and incubated 36-41 days.
Young Ospreys fledge after 50-54 days.

We can say that spring really has come! And now we are waiting for our Irma and Ivo
