The white-tailed eagle camera is located at a nest in West Estonia, a neighbour to the nest of Linda and Sulev that we have watched previously.

”Talking” is clearly audible…

So the time has arrived when there is plenty of activities and responsibilities. Female Anna must make the nest bowl fluffy and aired: a clear sign to male Uku that from now on fishing is no longer just a hobby to feed two beaks; it must be done seriously day by day, but the spawning of fish in shallow waters has started and will last for a long time

For recapitulation, WTE pair  Anna and Uku had their first egg on Women’s day, the second on March 11 and the third on March 14th. Incubation time for the large and powerful birds is calculated to be 38 days, thus we may see WTE chicks hatching already this week.

View from Wednesday morning of white-tailed eagle nest

For the symbols of Estonian primeval nature, the white-tailed eagles and golden eagles and the owls, the breeding period has started and the birds sit on eggs in the nests. The Environmental Board calls on all landowners, forest managers, hunters and all others who move in nature to support the peace during the breeding time of birds that are rare and very sensitive to environmental changes.

We were a little too quick with yesterday’s incubation story – in early morning light the view opened on female Anna’s third egg, probably laid late yesterday evening. Now the clutch should be complete.

So the first egg for Women’s Day, the second on March 11th and the last one on March 14th. Incubation is in process and we might begin to expect the hatching of eaglets from April 11th onwards.

The incubation time of our largest birds will be quite long. Information in literature varies but we might expect the hatching of eaglets in the camera nest around  April 11th.  First, the ”surprise” egg of the eagle pair appeared on Women’s Day, the next one on March 11th. The  full clutch of white-tailed eagles generally consists of 1-3 eggs.

When we saw the first egg of female eagle Anna in the morning mists of Women’s Day, we prepared to expect the second egg on Friday afternoon, or before the camera ends its transmission in the evening and so it was.

Women’s Day egg!

Never say that spring is not coming! A more splendid surprise cannot be imagined.

From now on the male of the eagle family too will be more visible. Uku has already been entrusted with keeping the egg warm.
