When evening begins wings have to be stretched for a bit.

Tawny  owl             Kodukakk      Strix aluco

Observing the peaceful home life in the owl nest we can see that female Klaara has three eggs in the nest in the tree trunk.

So the first egg on March 30th, the second one on April 2nd and the third on April 5th. Let us hope that the clutch is complete

White-tailed eagle    Merikotkas       Haliaeëtus albicilla

For the first time since the start of the egg-laying male  Sulev brought a prey to the nest  for his partner. Not a fish but a migratory bird.

At sea there are areas with open water but fish seldom gather in such places. Rather they still keep in the safe shelter of the ice cover.

The female carrying out this year’s important event and the male encouraging her…

Today the eagle pair have taken turns to warm the egg in the nest.  In early evening a snowfall started but we have seen the birds incubating in a heap of snow in earlier years too.

Which bird is in the nest? By her dark eyes we recognize the female (really simple to distinguish them this year).

The sleeping den

Brown bear         Karu or pruunkaru       Ursus arctos

The first one to wake up in late winter moving around in the Sirtsi bog area.  

An urgent need seems to have roused the sleeper, a yellow trail went from  the den to seven meters away which can be seen in the beginning of the video.

Golden eagle     Kaljukotkas or maakotkas       Aquila chrysaetos

I went to the observation hut to check on the golden eagle and caught the video about how the eagle landed on the ground.

It took about half an hour for it  to get down from the tree. It observed the area cautiously from the birch as well as the alder. Only when the air seemed to be ”clean” the majestic bird dared to act more bravely...
