September 22nd was the autumn equinox. Now night is longer than the day until spring. Evening dusk is already so cool that the breath of the boar herd that came to the sett steamed. It is good to see how the piglets from spring have filled out and that overall the herds in the woods here are large and healthy. A few tens of kilometres away the picture is different. The pest is doing its work and herds dwindle.

Our large islands were left without heavy rain today. The second half of summer has really been stormy but the rain has fallen quite varyingly across Estonia.

Fattening-up time has started for badgers. Nature, abandoned orchards and fields offer a rich variety of choices. So they don’t go foraging only in the evening but also at early light when something says that a little more to eat would be nice.

The night towards Tuesday was still spent in the nest, in early morning some necessary flights were made and from the video we can see that the departure from the nest was quite decisive.

Wind in your wings and adventures without dangers!

In some years the male has visited the nest after the departure of the young – as if summarising the happenings of the summer.
