In the badger castle there have been animal family idylls as well as life-threatening fights, and as visitors we have seen elks, deer and roe deer. The castle with 19 openings must accommodate at least a raccoon dog family with seven offspring, and a badger pair with two cubs – if all are at home.

We don’t really know thoroughly what the relationship between the badgers and the racoons in the badger castle might be. The occasion when the raccoon dog attacked the badger cub in camera view brought up a discussion of the harsh laws of nature and how these two species might be able to manage their lives side by side in a badger castle.

Male Ivo arrives at nest with food

The osprey chicks that hatched in the drought period knew almost nothing about anything but summery weather until the stormy day yesterday with gale winds but then mother Irma was there to cover the chicks carefully:

Eaglet and mother Suvi in early morning waiting for family father

For about ten days the eagle nest has been crumbling. Good at least that heavy rain or a serious storm has not occurred in the camera area.

Female Tiiu and two weeks old chick look eye to eye

Some small adjustments must be made in the hatching timeline of the osprey chicks.

We saw the hatching of the first osprey chick in the nest of Irma and Ivo on June 4. The new generation was increased by the next chick that hatched on June 6th.
