Brimstone butterfly
Brimstone butterfly |
Lapsuliblikas |
Our best known spring butterfly. It winters as an imago, and when resting holds its wings closed. Brimstones are easy to identify: the males are brightly yellow, the females much paler, sometimes yellowish green. The tip of the forewing is hook-shaped and the hind wing square. There are red dots in the centre of the wings. With its long sucking proboscis it reaches the nectar in flowers easily.
