Daring venture in WTE nest

The forum people call the mallard lady Mrs Maisy Daisy.

Early in the morning the mallard mum arrives at the nest to lay eggs and usually leaves the nest already around 9. How many eggs are there in the eagle nest? There should definitely be four.

The female mallard’s camouflage colouring is perfect and at a quick glance she may be completely undetectable. The video shows the dark blue area framed by white on the wings very well, the beak is orange – dark brown. Mallards fly with relatively slow wing beats and their wings are somewhat rounder compared to other ducks.
The full clutch consists of 17 – 19 eggs, sometimes even more, and then the mum begins to brood. That takes four weeks. This period is really quite dangerous for the brooder – the raptors visit their nest site every now and then even if it isn’t a year for nesting.
When she starts brooding the female mallard begins plucking down from herself to make a warm nest – she carries all the material “on“ herself.
The male is certainly somewhere nearby and she meets him during the day. When brooding starts the flocks of male birds go to moult in the reed banks in the coastal waters of the Silma protected area.
