The cooing of wood pigeons has been heard for some time now, and they have been seen a few times in the mornings. A better nesting site than the high spruce would be hard to find, their own nest is in a similar place and the beginning of May is just the right time for nesting. If it really comes to breeding two eggs will be laid, and the pair incubate in turns during 17-19 days.
The wood pigeon is our largest pigeon, a little larger than a crow. Nice, clean-looking forest birds: with a grey plumage, upper side of the wings brown with a white patch, underside whitish. Crop and breast with a wine red tone. The light-coloured triangular patches on the sides of the neck are characteristic signs. The beak is yellow, reddish at the cere. Carmine red feet – quite colourful beings.
