The meadow foxtail can be confused with timothy.
The pretty, orderly inflorescenses of both meadow foxtail and timothy form a long dense spike that our other grasses lack, but grasses are still rather similar.
The foxtails are about to start flowering in meadows and on roadsides where no timothy should grow. But in July we will be astonished to discover that some of the foxtails have turned into timothy; just then the flowering period of timothy begins.
