The pungent smell of Labrador tea in boggy forests comes from aromatic oils that probably volatilize very easily compared to our other plants. The heat wave helps too. During its peak blooming time the whole bog forest is lit up even in the evening dusk. The flower clusters sit at the top of the numerous branch tips.
When the Labrador tea flowers there is plenty of it as a rule; whether it is in a bog or a bog forest there must be enough moisture. The flowering lasts until the end of June.
It is not advisable to spend the night in a tent near this beautiful plant – most people will have a nasty headache in the morning.
