Technostork flies

Text and photos by Urmas

The weather is moderately warm with a bit of rain in the morning, a partly cloudy afternoon, and the evening clouding over. I am sitting around the clock in a blind about 60 meters from the nest.
On the morning of July 29th, only one chick can be seen in the nest. Mr. Middle decided to follow his older brother's example and made his first real flight. It's true that his first landing on a branch was not successful, but after a rest he managed to fly and land on the rotted remains of an old tree about 10 off the ground. See photo below.

From there he made it to the nest. The camera's pictures make it seem quite different… In the evening around five p.m., brothers Big and Middle flew quite freely around the glade. The smaller chick is a good climber and he'll soon be flying, too. Donna and Padis both went one time to feed the chicks. From the dead birch branch, Donna studied a pond which appeared overnight in the glade which even had fish in it.
