Herb Paris
Once more about a toxic herbaceous plant: the herb Paris contains toxic glycosides. At the joint of the four leaves we find a bluish-black berry covered with a wax layer. It can also be black and shiny. The plant cannot be confused with any other. The herb Paris grows everywhere in Estonia but not in large numbers and mostly in fresh deciduous forests and wooded meadows.
The “snake lick“, ussilakk, was believed to be what made the whole plant poisonous. People of old were good at word-plays.
