We have been repeatedly asked why the boars won’t visit the feeding ground?
Nothing wrong with digging for roots in the forest in warm weather. But when cold weather arrives things at the feeding ground must be checked at once. They appeared on the site a few minutes before midnight and spent an hour and half there.
The male boar moves with the herd – so some sows are still in heat. When the male has fulfilled his tasks in the herd he begins his usual solitary life in the forest. The movements of the flock are as always directed by the leader sow. Bea has ringed the male in red on the photo, most of the time the experienced animal keeps to the outskirts of the lighted area
