A look in the Virumaa forests was on today’s agenda, maybe a woodpecker or an owl could be added to the year list. I checked some rapidly-flowing rivers in Lahemaa to start with. Nobody in particular caught the eye, only at Nõmmeveski a
dipper was busy. Back in Rakvere the weather started to change however and finally a quite dense snowfall came. Moreover, so much snow had evidently fallen overnight that the car tended to get stuck on the forest roads and the best spots couldn’t be reached. So a proper forest tour will have to be ventured again later. The notebook received just a couple of
nutcracker and
black grouse sightings, and a
pygmy owl too; it and a
grey shrike were surveying each other from tree tops some twenty metres apart. As always, all observations worth noting have been entered into the
e-Biodiversity database.
