Sarcosoma cup fungi are up!

Patches of snow still remain on the forest floor, but lots of little brown balls have appeared in snow-free areas. There is no other way to describe the most secretive of our spring fungi, the Sarcosoma globosa.
Some years none appear. Some years instead hordes. This year seems once more to be a Sarcosoma year. The fruiting bodies are plump now. It is evident that only the first ones are up yet and there are plenty more coming.

Translator's note:  Limatünnik,  the Estonian name of the Sarcosoma globosa, means slime tub. One common name in English for it is "charred pancake cup“.
