Capercaillie
Looking at the weather forecast late last night it seemed that early morning weather in Virumaa should be clear and windless and I made a quick plan for going on an owl and hen trip. A couple of hours of sleep and so I went driving among the bogs of East Virumaa. The morning was truly beautiful, but horribly cold. The car thermometer showed -9C at about five o’clock but during the next few hours it grew even colder. Despite the crackling cold all places were full of
grouse bubbling, and I succeeded to see several
capercaillies too, but the main target of the trip – the
willow grouse – stayed undiscovered. Maybe the hard cold closed its beak? For this creature another bog trip has to be made sometime in April with a little warmer weather.
