Storklets at home on their own

Since Monday the black stork parents trust leaving the youngsters on their own in the nest. Parents are busy with “tempering” them until late evening; the storklets are not tucked under their adult’s down blanket until darkness falls. Everything seems to be in order with the younger generation, a nice friendly bunch of kids.

Leaving the young alone has a simple explanation. The food need of the storklets has grown so much that foraging in the nearest neighbourhood is no longer enough to feed the growing young. The water level in flowing waters is high since spring. Over the years of nesting the adults have established their „own“ fishing places at the forest creeks for different conditions.
