Grass-leaved orache

 

 

The oraches in the amaranth family are enduring plants that manage life on the seashore – even growing in sand. We recognize the grass-leaved orache from its lance-shaped (lanceolate) leaves with coarsely serrated margins and the tiny yellowish-green inflorescences. The height will be – depending on the habitat – under a metre. We often meet the grass-leaved orache growing in seaweed banks: seaweed is known as a good fertiliser for fields.
