Crane families keep together even after the young storks have fledged. They gather in corn fields and meadows and the juveniles are easily distinguishable from the adults.
Beginning from the end of August the crane flocks gather in their traditional overnight localities on the coast, in bogs and marshes; at that time the passing migrants from the north and east arrive too. Graceful and powerful birds with a mystical call, wing span nearly two and a half metres across the pair, surpassing swans as well as eagles.
