Many nature lovers have complained that this year fewer butterflies are seen. Let us try to investigate.
On sunny days it is rather complicated to follow the high brown fritillary, the powerful flier only pauses to feed on flowering plants, thus one must have some luck. We can meet it in open forest landscapes, meadows and on forest roads too.
The orange of the upper side of the wings is enlivened by the nearly black pattern, the edges of the wings by speckled fringes. The undersides of the wings vary but primarily the whitish dots are noticeable.
If you by chance see a pair of these butterflies together then the smaller is the male. They started flying out in July and then we meet them as long as beautiful late summer weather lasts.
