Sheet web spider (Linyphia triangularis) sheltering from rain

Who doesn’t know tales of how one animal or another went beneath a mushroom cap for rain shelter. Of course there are no caps in the forest where a man or a fox or at least a hare might find room. Mushrooms are way smaller. But animals are not limited to humans, foxes or hares. And so you can find mushrooms in the forest where a tiny animal can hide from the rain. Today we actually found a mushroom cap used as an umbrella. A little sheet web spider had crept into hiding under a tiny mushroom cap. When the rain got harder the spider pressed itself tightly against the mushroom stem. On the photo it is in a moderately heavy shower. So the tales have a reality basis. But a small one.
In addition to the umbrella I managed to get a really enjoyable photo of red fly agarics. There are more than two red fly agarics in this photo. Exactly how many is a question to sharpen everyone’s attention. But more important than the precise number is the pleasure of being with the fly agarics in the rain in a forest. I hope that this feeling too managed to creep into the photo.

The coolest photo in the world of red fly agarics. In the photo are six fly agarics
