Hello, bird friends!

It is a pleasure to report that the Birdwatch days once more were a success. Nearly 40 observation lists where more than 150 bird friends had participated arrived at the EOÜ for the quick survey of results. Great thanks to all of you, and especially to the guides on the guided tours for the public.

Altogether 130 000 birds were counted in Estonia, in the 34 participating countries however nearly 6 million birds.

in Estonia the most numerous species this year turned out to be chaffinch (35 500), wood pigeon (30 000) and crane (20 000). Exactly the same species were also the most numerous in Latvia. In Finland the most numerous species was the barnacle goose that has been at the top of our list too in several years; our northern neighbours counted 400 000 individuals this weekend. Finland also had a good pigeon migration weekend  – the wood pigeon was the second most frequently seen bird species there too.

A detailed summary of the Birdwatch days will be made at the end of next week, we ask all to please send their observation results to the EOÜ for this on Wednesday at the latest.

Best is to send them by e-mail:
