Birder's diary - 10.10
Lesser whitethroat
Again a day with frequent showers, but we still tried to be outside all day. Regarding finches and passerines in general silence reigned after a busy migration day. Only wood pigeons (Columba palumbus) – 6400 of them, moved significantly. The nets were open for some time, but altogether we only ringed 28 birds. Of late leavers there were 1 lesser whitethroat (Sylvia curruca) and 2 reed warblers (Acrocephalus scirpaceus). The rather boring bird day turned out to be quite varied in species however – during the day we managed to see 98 bird species at Sõrve säär. For more detailed information see the Sõrve bird station diary.
