We can now tell all bird friends and birdwatching day participants that the final results of this year’s Birdwatch have been added up.
79 observation forms arrived to the EOÜ this year, and 263 people took part in the observations for the forms. A great thank you to all of you for taking the time to get out in the beautiful autumn weather and for sharing your observations with others. Many thanks particularly to those who guided other interested parties in different parts of Estonia .
During the Birdwatch days altogether nearly a quarter of a million birds were counted - 245 000, among whom the most numerous were chaffinches (37 750 individuals), wood pigeons (31 050), greater white-fronted geese (30 300), cranes (24 000) and barnacle geese (18 050). Among the most interesting species seen during the birdwatch days was the lesser white-fronted goose, also many late migrants such as the honey buzzard, Sandwich tern and common tern, the house martin, tree pipit, yellow wagtail, reed warbler and red-backed shrike. A more detailed summary, with all encountered species and individual numbers listed, is on the EOÜ home page:
