White elm

 

Pleasant autumn weather is promised for the weekend. A wonderful time to enjoy the scenery, moreover no one bites or harasses you.

 

The trees that still have leaves are brightly coloured but you can already wade in fallen leaves. Bird cherries have dropped their leaves, part of the ashes are bare. It is a good time to compare birches because the forest is more transparent: downy birches are getting bare, their trunks are white and without crusts, silver birches are still in leaf and the lower part of the trunks of old and large trees are covered by dark crusts.

 

Loads of colours are offered by the elms and white elms, maples are at the last stage of their long sequence of autumn metamorphoses ...

 

Enjoy the beautiful autumn while it lasts. At the end of the month only some oaks remain in leaf, together with evergreen shrubs and trees. Then autumn melancholy arrives.
