On Monday evening the greys started gathering on the limestone plateau in front of the camera. On Saturday the seawater level had started to fall with the eastern winds; for the last few months it has been very high (up to half a metre above normal; even today just above the Kronstadt zero level) and the water temperature was more than ten degrees.
The big, blackish-dark adult male seals keep a little apart, the ladies, in brighter furs, exchange news and the young animals romp around in the surroundings and send the water flying. In the evening nearly fifty grey seals were busy in camera view.
