Starling
Starling Kuldnokk Sturnus vulgaris
Starlings rove around in the warm autumn and until the weather turns more wintery they have no worries.
The familiar metallic sheen has gone from the plumage, the colour has turned more grey. White dots cover the head as well as body. The beak base of the male is bluish, that of the female pink or yellow. Good to know when the starlings allow themselves to be studied.
Starlings are fast fliers, in an hour they may fly up to 75 kilometres. They migrate during daytime: half a thousand kilometres during the short autumn day and by evening they can already be in Poland.
In winter starlings ringed in Estonia are seen in Belgium, the Netherlands, UK and Ireland.
