November is probably the dullest bird month and so I did not venture out much, only a couple of times on twitching trips. In the beginning of the month, November 2 – 3, I went to Dirham in Läänemaa to twitch the little bunting and on November 19th I managed to see the Naumann’s thrush on Kihnu island. At the end of the month a Mediterranean gull in Haapsalu caused excitement, but despite several days of searching I missed the creature. Into my 2012 species list 2 new species were added in November (the twitched little bunting and Naumann’s thrush) and altogether there are now 275 bird species on the list.
In November I only collected 28 more observation hours (1658 altogether from the beginning of the year), but driving kilometres were actually 2311 (47100 from the beginning of the year) because of the long twitching trips; kilometres on foot only 18 (1175 altogether from the beginning of the year). A more active trip period will begin again in December, collecting winter points starts then.
