First evening of Wild Boar Forest Webcam

A thirteen-headed crowd arrived in daylight at a quarter to four. Half an hour later the electric lighting that was slowly coming on scared the visitors off – strange and unfamiliar business. They did not go very far however, because in a little while sniffing was heard. There were three big sows and the springtime piglets that may already be called young boars in the herd.
They appeared again at a quarter to six, and for about half an hour. A young male boar wannabe, probably from the same herd, moved at the border of the lighted area but the leader sow drove him off into the forest. It seems that the heat period is about to begin. Nature is clever: the young males from the same family are driven off to prevent mating between relatives. A big and strong male is certainly moving near the herd and will join it at the right moment and mate with all the sows in heat. There may be several males and quite bloody battles are sometimes fought among them because only the winner has all the privileges. More about the weapons and defences of the male boars some time later on.
Dense snow was falling during the camera installation and the image could not be properly adjusted. Soon, when the air humidity decreases, we will be able to improve the image quality.
