Frostwork on window

 

Frost flowers earlier decorated the windows of our city flats with the first cold weather spells. Now we only see them in unheated rooms or on the windows of unused country houses or outbuildings.

 

The explanation is in the change-over in our homes to more air-tight windows that do not ”breathe”, and control of air humidity. The indoors and outdoors air temperatures rarely create ice patterns. In the more humid environment inside the old windows an ice flower started to grow from a corner, creating new and intriguing ”crystal” patterns.
