The first little grey seal pup came to show itself for a moment in camera view at two o’clock. The mother brought her cub to have its evening meal in front of the camera a little before five.

 

About the hero of the day: birth weight of a seal pup is 11-12 kilos, and the weight gain adds of a couple of kilos each day. Such an increase is made possible by the seal milk with a fat content at an amazing 50 %.

 

The female seal doesn’t feed during the suckling and her weight loss is four kilos a day.

 

Their life together lasts just three weeks. How much the one grows, and the other becomes slimmer, during that time, all can calculate for themselves. For a seal cub the fat stored from the sucking period is sufficient for the next one to one and a half months, to get the further necessities for life on their own.
