Linda left the nest on Sunday night before sunset, when Sulev arrived to replace her. That she might stay away in the dark could be suspected, but she was away nearly the whole Monday. Sulev was bravely on the nest until Linda at last arrived in the evening a little after five.

 

The frosty late winter, laying eggs and warming the nest requires much energy. We hope that Linda has been feeding somewhere. Sulev has been able to look around more, but he has not managed to bring food to the nest either which he as an experienced breeder surely would have done if he had found prey.

Northern lights last night at the white-tailed eagles winter feeding ground. 

 

This should have been well visible from Linda and Sulev’s nest too.

 

To those who are just starting to watch the nest life: how to see the difference between Linda and Sulev easily?

 

Linda has rings on both feet, Sulev has none. The male has slightly lighter head feathers and the tail feathers are all white. On Linda’s white tail feathers there are a couple of dark patches. Seeing the difference between the birds is not particularly difficult after all – the eye gets used.
