		Tawny owl     Kodukakk       Strix aluco

We discovered Klaara's first laid egg in the nestbox on the evening of March 19th. In earlier years Klaara started incubating, without the long evening pauses, after having laid the third egg, to time the hatching of the chicks within a shorter period. As of today there are five eggs in the nest (in 2009 Klaara also laid five eggs but one was stolen by a marten) Only the female bird incubates, and Klaus comes to feed her during that period. Klaus goes hunting only when dusk arrives. He knows the surroundings well and in the previous years he has managed to feed the family nicely.

The incubation period is calculated to be four weeks, so around April 20th we can begin to expect the chicks to hatch. Until then let’s keep our fingers crossed for the tawny owl pair, and watch their behaviour and actions further on.
