Are Klaaras’s chicks hatching?

Webcam capture: Aita, LK forum
Translation: Liis

Tonight when Klaara goes out to “stretch her legs“ at around half past nine, the first two chicks have probably hatched and we can welcome the new owl citizens. The image was captured just before five o’clock in early morning and the two eggs on the right show clear traces of “actors” from inside.

Some history too: Klaara laid the first egg on March 19, and the last egg was added to the clutch on March 29 – a really long gap. She started the four-week incubation period already before all eggs had been laid, or on March 22 by estimate. Naturally the following chicks will hatch later and the age difference will remain noticeable but Klaara cares for food, cover and protection for all.

Hunting for prey with the snow melting away has made the life of owls easier.
