For all with an interest in birdsong tours to parkland forests are organized all over Estonia in springtime. But actually one can manage a personal learning tour quite nicely. You must only get up in early morning and go for a walk in a nearby park or cemetery, and search for familiar sounds to start with.
One well known and familiar representative of birdsong is the chiff-chaff whose song (in Estonian) “tsila-tsalp, tsilp-tsalp” sounds all over Estonia. One acquaintance is already found!
If you discover something that is “foreign“ to your ear, then the sound can be recorded together with your comments in your mobile and compared at home. In the bookstores a quite good birdsong book with 150 recordings is available and a CD disk was enclosed in the latest issue of the „Eesti Loodus“ journal.
Familiar species with descriptions are represented, and self-education is simple - only will is needed. On the next walk in the forest the trees will already be full of new acquaintances.
