The starling has pink legs

 

 

The hatching of starling chicks is confirmed by the appearance of pale blue egg shells under the nest; they are simply thrown out of the nest. This year it happened a week ago in South Estonia, and in the last few days egg shells have been found in Tallinn too. The behaviour of the adults changes now – one sits on the nest warming the chicks while the other searches for food. A couple of days after finding egg shells a faint twittering can be heard from the nest box.

 

A clutch can have four up to seven chicks and the newly hatched are fed with small insects. Later insect larva and caterpillars, earthworms and wireworms (the larvae of click beetles) and beetles are added. The adults are in a hurry all the time, feeding goes on from early light to evening dusk.
