Fly honeysuckle
Fly honeysuckle Harilik kuslapuu
We recognize the fly honeysuckle in a city park or in a forest from its greyish green leaves. They are placed oppositely on the shoots, covered in soft hairs, and look quite fragile.
The beautiful shape of the funnel-like flowers, with a delicate and rather intricate structure, has been carefully crafted by nature. The white flowers have no scent but for insects and bees they are a good source of nectar.
Frost-hardy and undemanding, accepts modest habitats. Suckers from the roots develop abundantly in order to increase its growing area; roots are near the ground surface. Sometimes almost impenetrable fly honeysuckle thickets with abundantly forking grey-coloured branches that can grow up to a height of three meters are found in forests.
