Fascinating to watch how the LSE female assists the chick that hatched on its own.
Lesser spotted eagles are our most numerous eagle species, the same is true of the European eagle population. In Estonia more than five hundred pairs breed and the number is not decreasing, although in most cases only one chick fledges from a nest.
The breeding success of spotted eagles is determined by a three-year cycle, which follows changes in the number of the main prey, voles. A reminder: this year is not a so-called “mouse year”.
