A week in the forest: wolf pups are growing

It was probably the first time when a member of this year`s new generation of wolves saw a human. Soomaa National Park, July 2013

Wolf pups are growing up faster and faster and because of that they also need more food. By now, all females with pups should have finished suckling. Both parents carry food in their stomachs for their offspring, often from long distances, which will be regurgitated for the little ones when arriving back home.
This year`s dry summer has dried up a large number of ditches in the forest. Since wolves consume relatively large amount of water during a day, they are often forced to relocate their pups to places which are safe for the pups, but also have flowing water nearby.
