The Camberwell beauties have dark brown wings bordered by a band of blue flecks and an off-white or yellowish edging. Very skilled fliers, we see them rising to the tree tops with their characteristic fast and powerful flight.

They allow themselves to be observed quite nicely: in sunny and sheltered locations,  warming themselves on plants or tree trunks. We meet them at forest verges, forest roads and clearing lines, in gardens and parks. Older individuals that were flying about already in July have “worn“ colours and the wing borders are no longer so bright.

Towards the end of September the Camberwell beauty imagos search a wintering spot for themselves, to delight us again in the beginning of May next year.
