The bats belonging to the genus Pipistrellus are the smallest bats in Europe. Their body weight is 3-10 grams and the wing span is only up to 250 mm. In Estonia they mainly live in parks and other similar stands of trees, where often a water body is found as well.
As shelters the Pipistrelle bats often use cavities in buildings and trees.
The above species have characteristic short, round-tipped, triangular ears and a blunt-shaped tragus. Distinguishing between the species can be quite complicated requiring very careful observation.
