Photo Helve from Tartu

On a walk along River Emajõgi we saw a happily swimming duck, apparently an albino
Nearly every year albino mallards are encountered in Estonia but the photo by Helve tells a story.
The female mallard is in its ordinary plumage, its beak is orange with dark brown spots. But the hero of the story is the albino male mallard whose beak colour is yellow throughout the year, and it can be clearly seen that as the characteristic sign of the species the middle tail feathers curl upwards.
