Northern bat Põhja-nahkhiir Eptesicus nilssonii
All these are bats that winter in Estonia and with the present warm weather we can also notice them in the evening dusk. At less than 10 degrees of warmth the insect preys of the bats become less active. As the weather gets colder the bats head for their selected wintering locations and some of the animals are probably already in a low-activity state. They hibernate in sandstone or limestone caves, in cellars, panel crevices of buildings, between heat-conserving roof coverings, hollows in large trees.
Should you discover a wintering place, try to disturb the bats as little as possible.
