Who opens the Alutaguse web camera will see raccoon dogs. They appear already in the afternoon and are busy almost to early dawn. Sometimes it is necessary to retire a little when the bear steps by on its tour. But even then screeching goes on close by to disturb the visitor.

 

Probably around 14 individuals are busy in the observation neighbourhood, two raccoon pairs with their springtime offspring and they have really fed themselves stout. The larger ones weigh around 10 kilos, the smaller from 6 kilos and upwards. The springtime offspring become independent and will be in heat already in early spring next year.

 

90% of the adult raccoon dogs are in heat every year. In nature they are a pest for ground-nesting birds and particularly for wild hen species. On the individuals in camera view scabies is at least not noticeable.

They are food competitors to foxes, badgers, even to brown bears.
