Battue count of large mammals
ELF, the Estonian Fund for Nature, calls all friends of voluntary work and animals to the forest to count animals. The battue count of large mammals will take place in Pärnumaa on November 16 – 17.
For the first time ELF called voluntary work friends to a count of mammals in January this year, when it was needed find out what large mammals inhabited the home territory of a radio tagged lynx.
Researchers have various ways of finding information for evaluations. Arranging battue counts is one. A big plus of battue counts is that they provide an occasion for involving a large number of nature friends at an event.
The zeal and good work of the volunteers in January prompted the organisers to investigate how many large mammals inhabit an area which has been investigated by similar methods together with students of Tallinn University. The data obtained are useful for understanding the menu of predators better as well as other ecological issues.
We start for the battue count early on Saturday morning when buses from both Tartu and Tallinn will head for the counting locations. Read more and register at:
