Wild boar       Metssiga    Sus scrofa

The young immature male boars move around in the forest, sometimes by pairs, as long as the boar mating season still lasts. How to spend the cold nights, when in autumn one could still lay down to rest with the herd, side by side? Wild boars are clever and it isn’t rare for a forest rambler to find an upturned anthill at the foot of a spruce – there young boars go to sleep. The upper, wet layer of the nest is pushed aside and a bed furrow is arranged. Anthill material holds retains well, and at the foot of a large spruce where the branches touch the ground neither downpour nor storms will be frightening.

In spring the ants of course have some work to do with getting their nest mound in order.
