Ash with male flowers before flowering

Being wind pollinated, the ash flowers before leaves appear. Ashes can be dioecious: there are male and female specimens. There are also trees with both male and female flowers in the inflorescences.
Dark bulges develop on the twigs, the inflorescences appear from the buds.
